Propel Ventures is a fast growing company based in an iconic Richmond building and recently recognised as a Great Place to Work.
At Propel, we find it heartbreaking that many software products fail; and we recognise that it takes very special skills to make products that people love. To solve this problem, we partner with well-known organisations to help them capture product market opportunities faster. Over the past three years we have developed eight market leading products for our clients - and we have developed these products on time and on budget and have won market share for them in each instance.
For the last year the team have been successfully working remotely, so although our office has re-opened, every Propel Ventures team member has the choice to work from the office or from home and we plan to make the office safe and fun so you will want to get out of the PJ’s at least a few times per week. This means we are also opening up our roles beyond Melbourne to anywhere in Australia.

The ideal candidate for this role will bring an exceptional level of technical expertise paired with the ability to clearly articulate to both business and technical teams. This is a pivotal role to lead Propel's technical capabilties and profile in the market.

You have proven experience leading technical teams in highly complex environments using contemporary tech stacks and methodologies;
You have a passion and track record for continuous improvement of technical capabilities and practices which capture and engage senior technology executives; and

What you'll own and drive:

Technical leadership, strategy and oversight across all Propel engagements which span multiple, diverse domains

Coaching and direction to engineering leadership and development teams; helping them balance engineering/technology with delivery and product needs to deliver high-quality software

Working with our partners to drive alignment and continuous improvement of practices, including engineering, security and compliance

Operating across multiple programs with varying levels of involvement that will span from high level oversight and advisory to deeper, hands-on roles

Working closely with cross functional leaders inside of Propel and with our clients such as Product Management, Architecture, Security, Infrastructure and other Engineering Managers to develop solutions which meet client and customer needs

Representing Propel’s technical capability to customers and prospects

Defining and establishing Propel’s best practice engineering practices and culture for both customer projects and internal use to maintain and improve our world-class software engineering environment

Ensure team members have the right training and tooling to do their best work

Support engineering leaders in their career development

Own the quality and performance metrics for the software developed by the engineering teams

Encourage teams to experiment with new technologies, tools and processes in a way that does not compromise delivery, within the boundaries of technical decision-making frameworks.

Champion the development of an ownership culture where engineering teams take full responsibility for a well-defined section of the product, including identifying and resolving operational issues, tracking and resolving common problems raised and investing in the repayment of technical debt
What we're looking for:

Prior experience as an engineering leader, demonstrating deep technical skills and an understanding of complex software architectures.

Experience in delivering software with agile development teams, across multiple domains.

A practical, forthright approach to delivering customer outcomes

The ability to make technical concepts easy to understand for our customers and team members without compromising quality
